Spring predictions that the West Nile virus would not be as harsh this year came true, making local health officials and Inland Valley residents happy as the season comes to a close.

Steven Su, vector ecologist for the West Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District, said the 2006 season had the lowest number of reported West Nile cases since 2003.
