LA VERNE - An associate professor of writing at the University of La Verne has received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts in recognition of his fiction. The grant carries a $25,000 prize.

Sean Bernard received word of the prestigious award last month. He's one of only 40 grant recipients out of 1,179 applicants, and the only winner from Southern California.
