RANCHO CUCAMONGA - A man was shot by a sheriff's deputy early Tuesday after he attacked the deputy with a steel chair and a concrete lawn ornament, sheriff's officials said.

Michael Jones, 48, of Rancho Cucamonga was taken to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton for treatment of a gunshot wound to his hand. He was held for a psychiatric evaluation.
