Our democracy relies on a free and independent media to provide a check on government. To do so, it's sometimes necessary to protect the relationship between journalists and their confidential sources.
Yet the Senate Judiciary Committee last week delayed a vote on a proposed federal shield law for journalists that would guard the public's right to learn important information regarding their government.
