After Roger Jon Diamond won dismissal of the case against a La Verne man accused of ordering gang rapes against his wife in September 2002, the attorney took his client to see a judge.

Pomona Superior Court Judge Bruce F. Marrs was not just any jurist. He had ruled three months before that Roy Sise, 48, should stand trial on charges that included rape, sodomy, oral copulation and spousal rape. Marrs also kept bail at $4 million and said he thought the woman's testimony was credible.
