Summary


There was plenty of grandstanding about the cancellation of the traditional weeklong Fourth of July recess for the U.S. Senate after its members were chastised by President Obama last week. "At a certain point, they need to do their job," he chided.

That job at present involves in great part deliberating over the various cuts and raises that are necessary to both have a budget for the governance of the country in the short run, which is a good thing - and for the even more important long-term dramatic reduction of the ballooning federal deficit over the next decade, which is the nation's most important fiscal priority.
