Barbeque, Vigil to Be Held in Memory of Fallen Pomona Officer

Summary

The news of fellow policeman Daniel Fraembs' murder left Pomona Police Department officers and civillian employees stunned and overwhelmed with grief.

Fraembs, a former Marine and Orange County Sheriff's Department deputy, had joined the Pomona force three years before he was felled by a single shot near the intersection of Humane Way and Mission Boulevard on May 11, 1996. He is the only Pomona officer to be killed in the line of duty. Starting hours after a passer discovered his body, flowers were strewn all over the site where Fraembs fell. Thousands of tearful residents lined the streets on May 17, 1996, for the funeral procession that took 1 hours to move through the city from Pomona First Baptist Church to Forest Lawn Covina Hills. Tears flowed from men and women's eyes as helicopters flew the missing-man formation. It has been a decade, but officers, friends and citizens who swore to never forget still remember the Chino Hills' man they all called Danny and respected. Law-abiding citizens and police agents mourned the death of a man described as a dedicated officer, committed to his colleagues and the community.
