When the Assembly began its new legislation session last December, both Democrats and Republicans expressed their willingness to work together to craft bipartisan reforms that take redistricting powers away from the politicians and restore them to the people in the form of an independent commission.
As vice-chair of the Assembly Elections Committee, I have been working closely with Assembly Republican Leader Mike Villines and my colleagues to fix a broken system once and for all. We have made redistricting one of our top legislative priorities this year, introducing legislation (Assembly Constitutional Amendment 4) on the very first day of the session that we hope will be the catalyst for reform.See the full content of this document
