LAKE ARROWHEAD -- They brought Southern politeness anda love of a good time. And, like most of the area's recent arrivals from Louisiana, they're also looking for homes.

Eight rescued dogs rode in to town Wednesday night after a two- day journey from Lafayette, La., an area already swarmedwith stray dogs and cats, and evacuees, due to Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.Cheyenne Johnson and other volunteers with the Mountains' Humane Society in Lake Arrowhead were so taken with reports of the critical needs of hurricane animals and the impassioned pleas of rescue groups that they arranged the rescue trip.
