CHICAGO - As Freddy Garcia bounded out to the mound for his U.S. Cellular Field debut as a member of the Chicago White Sox, he paused at the third base line, dabbed his finger in the chalk and said a brief prayer.

He had plenty to be thankful for, including a three-year, $27 million contract extension signed earlier in the day, and the prospect of facing the Angels, a club he's dominated even when they weren't in the throes of a five-week offensive drought.
