BOSTON - Let the record show Vladimir Guerrero was the last Angel standing in 2004, saving his new club from utter embarrassment at the hands of the Red Sox with a grand-slam home run, trying to carry the team to a win in the fall after doing it so many times in a hard summer.
He stood in right field at Fenway Park, frozen by the sudden end Friday, after David Ortiz's 10th-inning homer climbed over the Green Monster on the other side of the diamond to give the Red Sox an 8-6 victory and a 3-0 playoff sweep of the Angels. As the other Angels ran or walked briskly off the field, Guerrero walked slowly with his head hanging, his glove dead in his right hand.
