Contrary to the false claims made in Jose Calderon's liberal commentary on immigration ("Blaming immigrants during downturns," March 30), my support for stronger measures to protect America's borders is simply this: As a nation, the United States must start protecting American citizens and American taxpayers. And to do this, we must first secure our borders.
For over 200 years, America has welcomed legal immigrants from across the globe. We are one of the most kind, caring, and compassionate nations on Earth. Our nation serves as a beacon of freedom and opportunity for entrepreneurs from all over the world who want to bring their talents, their knowledge and their work ethic to a place where they can be safe from tyranny and enjoy the fruits of the labors.
