Food Drive Fridays a Success at Fair
This year, L.A. County Fair collected nearly 60,000 cans for the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank, but many people did not realize who the men were taking their donations. The volunteers are men who are recovering from addictions who are trying to turn their lives around at Victory Outreach Church.

It seems that Falken Tire, a Japanese tire manufacturer with an operation in Fontana, would receive a fair share of gifts when it recently marked its 100th anniversary. Instead, it was Falken Tire that was doing all the giving. On the receiving end was the Friends of the Pacific Electric Trail of Rancho Cucamonga, who welcomed the $24,000 donation with gratitude and a bit of awe.

Blaine Linaweaver, 34, was only 5 when his big brothers "stuck a rope in my hand, told me 'there you go, boy' and challenged me to figure it out and fend for myself." The native of Leavenworth, Kan., did more than trail behind his two older brothers. He figured out the intricacies of roping so well, he is now ranked eighth in the world among professional competitive cowboys involved in team roping.

One of the best ways to help the community is to help young people achieve their higher educational dreams, said San Dimas Rodeo Inc. education chairwoman Janie Graef. The rodeo board, which stages the annual San Dimas/Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Rodeo, recently awarded $8,000 in scholarships to 10 high school graduates and two college students.

Euclid School Celebrates Its Testing Improvements
In the past month, there have been three events to celebrate the improvement students made on the state and federal tests. The first event which took place on Sept. 14, was the Medals Assembly. Each student who improved on the STAR assessment was awarded an academic achievement medal at the assembly in their honor.
